Power hitting has become a shrinking commodity in Major League Baseball.
As an outfielder with the Wareham Gatemen and Virginia Tech, Middleboro native Tyler Horan became well known for his slugging prowess. The 6-foot-2, 232 pound Horan led the Cape Cod League in home runs with 16 in 2012 and shared team honors for the Hokies this spring, finishing with 11 round trippers. The offensive display caught the eye of the world champion San Francisco Giants and Horan was selected 252nd overall in last week's Major League Baseball draft. He reported to the Giants' spring training facility in Scottsdale, Arizona on June 11 and is playing for the team's Arizona League (rookie) entry. Horan is hitting .267 and tripled, scoring twice in Wednesday 8-1 victory over Milwaukee's rookie squad.
